Energy Management
*
Today we are talking all about “Energy Management”. Shouldn’t I be calling this time management like everyone else. My answer is no. Our Energy is much more precious than our time. We often will run out of energy far before we run out of time. The question that time management tries to solve is really an energy problem. Lets say you have 6 tasks that need to get done tomorrow and you have some flexibility over when they get done as long as they are done by close of business tomorrow you are golden. You can schedule the tasks so the most intellectually challenging tasks are done when you are fresh and alert and the more mechanical tasks are done when you are tired.
Do you ever wonder why you get so much done before you go on a trip? This is another way to think about Energy Management. I call it the vacationing employee mentality. Pretend each day that it is the day or week before your vacation. You will make a list of what absolutely needs to get done by you, put the tasks that can wait on a reminder list for when you get back, and then delegate everything else that must get done when you are away to someone else. Now I know many of us are in business alone so that delegate thing sounds like a great idea but I think you get my point.
