Casio Exilim Digital Cameras: EX-S12.

Over the past few weeks many of you have been asking me about the cameras that we use on Tuesday Mornings.  Here is all the information that you need to purchase one for yourself.

Please note that I use the EX-S10 camera but that is because I purchased mine about a year ago as of the date of this post.  If I where to purchase a camera today for general blogging and podcasting I would use the EX-S12.

I pick the EX-S12 for three main reasons.  First because of the form factor it is very convenient to be able to carry this camera everywhere I go. Second is because of the price at around $250 you can not complain.  And third because it really is a great little camera. Still pictures come out great even in low light. Videos are good enough for You Tube and it can record sound as well.

Today our topic is “Screen Casting with Camtasia Studio”. We are going to talk about how you can use this tool in your business.

I have been trying to get the newest version of Camtasia Studio, version 6.0.3, to work on my computer and ran into the strangest problem.  Every time that I tried to import a “MOV” file from my Camera Camtasia Reported “No codec available to render this file”.  I went to Camtasia support and followed the instructions bellow:

1.  Make sure the codec that was installed was working correctly:

I tried installing or reinstalling the codec. Followed the instructions from Camtasia’s Support ( If you are trying to use the TSCC video codec, for example, run the install file for TSCC.  The file is TSCC.EXE and is located in the folder that Camtasia is installed in.)

2. Make sure the DirectShow components not properly registered:

Try registering qedit.dll and quartz.dll using the following commands:

• Start > Run and then paste (include the quote marks):  regsvr32 “%windir%\system32\qedit.dll” into the Run box.  Click OK.
• Start > Run and then paste (include the quote marks):  regsvr32 “%windir%\system32\quartz.dll” into the Run box.  Click OK.

Can you believe that none of these steps helped me with my problem?

I felt like I was never going to be able to use my “MOV” files when I discovered what the problem was.  I did not have the most recent version of QuickTime installed on my computer.  As soon as I installed it poof just like magic Camtasia started importing my “MOV” files. You can download the latest version of QuickTime here.  Though it did not solve my problem I found many reference to people using the K-Lite Codec Pack to solve this problem.  You can download the latest K-Lite codecs here.
