Camtasia Studio No Codec Found Error

I have been trying to get the newest version of Camtasia Studio, version 6.0.3, to work on my computer and ran into the strangest problem.  Every time that I tried to import a “MOV” file from my Camera Camtasia Reported “No codec available to render this file”.  I went to Camtasia support and followed the instructions bellow:

1.  Make sure the codec that was installed was working correctly:

I tried installing or reinstalling the codec. Followed the instructions from Camtasia’s Support ( If you are trying to use the TSCC video codec, for example, run the install file for TSCC.  The file is TSCC.EXE and is located in the folder that Camtasia is installed in.)

2. Make sure the DirectShow components not properly registered:

Try registering qedit.dll and quartz.dll using the following commands:

  • Start > Run and then paste (include the quote marks):  regsvr32 “%windir%\system32\qedit.dll” into the Run box.  Click OK.
  • Start > Run and then paste (include the quote marks):  regsvr32 “%windir%\system32\quartz.dll” into the Run box.  Click OK.

Can you believe that none of these steps helped me with my problem?

I felt like I was never going to be able to use my “MOV” files when I discovered what the problem was.  I did not have the most recent version of QuickTime installed on my computer.  As soon as I installed it poof just like magic Camtasia started importing my “MOV” files. You can download the latest version of QuickTime here.  Though it did not solve my problem I found many reference to people using the K-Lite Codec Pack to solve this problem.  You can download the latest K-Lite codecs here.

If you are still having problems after you try the above steps please go to Tech Smith Support they have a tool named Graph Edit that will enable you to send them debug info

Thank you so much. The quicktime install did nothing, and I hate having extra stuff on my PC, so I was going to give up. Instead, I installed the K-Lite codec pack and WHOILA!!! I have been at this for weeks, giving up in between tries, LOL. Thanks sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much.

    Hey Joey,
I am happy to hear that this helped. I was working with tech support for months to get this working. Version 6.0.3 should have fixed this problem but it did not.
